IHG is bolstering its presence in Portugal with the announcement of a Kimpton Hotel in the Algarve region, opening in 2025.

Let’s dive right in!

Kimpton Comes to Portugal’s Algarve Region

Kimpton Algarve São Rafael Atlántic will have 149 guest rooms. Amenities include indoor and outdoor pools, a gym and a full-service spa, nearly 14,000 square feet of meeting space, and multiple restaurants and bars.

The hotel will be located steps from São Rafael Beach, one of the top 10 beaches in the region. If you aren’t familiar, the Algarve is a region in the southernmost part of Portugal and is known for its stunning beaches and quaint towns.

The hotel is expected to open for guests in 2025, though IHG hasn’t yet released an exact opening date.

In announcing the news, Alexandre Solleiro, CEO of Highgate Portugal, noted that he had seen the success of the Kimpton brand in other European destinations, such as France and the United Kingdom.

“We are proud to bring the first Kimpton hotel to one of Portugal’s most popular tourist destinations together with IHG Hotels & Resorts,” said Solleiro.

Booking IHG Hotels in Portugal

While we wait for the Kimpton Algarve São Rafael Atlántic in the coming years, you have other options to earn and redeem points at IHG properties across Portugal.

IHG has nearly 20 open hotels across 6 brands in Portugal, including Six Senses, InterContinental, Vignette Collection, Crowne Plaza, Holiday Inn, and Holiday Inn Express. An additional 66 are in the pipeline across the Iberian Peninsula.

These include some budget-friendly options, like the Holiday Inn Express: Lisbon – Av. Liberdade (starting at 16,000 points per night in January), all the way up to the high-end Six Senses Douro Valley, which doesn’t even accept points (rates start at around $900 per night).

It’s relatively easy to earn IHG One Rewards points, even if you don’t stay at its hotels often. You can earn points by spending on IHG’s 3 co-branded credit cards or by transferring Chase Ultimate Rewards or Bilt Rewards points to IHG One Rewards at a 1:1 ratio.

Final Thoughts

Portugal is getting another high-end resort option, this time in the beachy, picturesque region of the Algarve. While this hotel isn’t opening for a few more years, check out IHG’s other hotels and resorts across Portugal!
