Thanks to its incredible flexibility, Amex Membership Rewards is one of the most valuable travel rewards programs around.
It boasts well over a dozen airline transfer partners. And now, there’s a 25% transfer bonus to one of its partners, JetBlue TrueBlue.
Here are all of the details of this new Amex transfer bonus and a look at whether you should take advantage.
Typically, American Express Membership Rewards transfer to JetBlue TrueBlue at a 1:0.8 ratio. However, if you transfer your points between now and November 30, 2023, you’ll receive a 25% bonus when you transfer at least 250 points.
That means for every 250 Membership Rewards points you transfer, you’ll get 250 JetBlue TrueBlue points. This transfer bonus is automatic so you don’t need to sign up for anything. You can transfer up to a maximum of 999,000 points and transfers are usually instant, although be aware that they can take up to 2 days.
Transfers from Amex to U.S. frequent flyer programs, such as TrueBlue, are subject to a federal excise tax of 0.06 cents per transferred point, up to a $99 maximum.
TrueBlue is a fixed-value rewards program, meaning the number of points you’ll need to redeem is directly tied to the cash cost of the ticket.
Usually, you’ll receive somewhere around 1.3 cents to 1.5 cents per point in value on your JetBlue redemptions. So while this transfer bonus is certainly helpful for some travelers, it’s also not the most optimal way to redeem Amex points, which are valued at around 2.2 cents apiece.

It’s always nice to see a transfer bonus to an airline or hotel program. We typically focus on covering high-value deals, but this transfer bonus may be helpful for some who are on the cusp of making a redemption with the TrueBlue program and just need a few more points to push them over the threshold of what’s needed.
So while this is certainly a way to extract more value from your points and values, it’s not the best way to use your Amex points if you hope to redeem them for the most value possible.
