Delta SkyMiles, often called SkyPesos, get a bad rap for their poor redemption value. Sure, a business class flight to Europe might cost you 400,000 SkyMiles nowadays, but we’re here to show you it’s not always bad news for the SkyMiles program.

We’ve found a bunch of excellent award flights to Mexico City, a foodie’s paradise. Here’s how you can fly to many cities across the U.S. to CDMX, starting at just 20,000 Delta SkyMiles round-trip!

Award Deal — Details

After Delta removed its award charts in favor of dynamic pricing, redeeming SkyMiles for a decent value became much more difficult. Fortunately, we found widespread availability to Mexico City (MEX) from dozens of U.S. cities.

You’ll fly nonstop on Delta or SkyTeam partner Aeromexico from cities like Chicago (ORD) or New York (JFK). If you don’t live near a big airport, no problem. You can enjoy easy, 1-stop connections via Delta’s hubs, like Atlanta (ATL) or Detroit (DTW).

  • Class: Economy and first class
  • Route: Most U.S. cities to Mexico City (MEX)
  • Cost: 20,000 to 32,000 SkyMiles for economy class or 54,000 to 66,000 SkyMiles for first class (round-trip)
  • Travel Dates: January through August 2024

To search for these tickets, go to Delta’s website and enter your home airport and desired dates. Press “Shop with Miles” and “My dates are flexible” to find the best rates possible.

Example Fares

Those who live in or near Los Angeles (LAX) are in luck with round-trip fares for just 20,000 miles.

You can enjoy Aeromexico’s first class for just 58,000 SkyMiles round-trip from Houston (IAH) or fly economy for just 32,000 SkyMiles.

This deal is widespread, even for travelers who must first connect to a hub airport. From my home airport at Raleigh-Durham (RDU), there are some excellent deals across Main Cabin, Comfort+, and First Class.

Even smaller airports are getting the love with this deal. Image Credit: Delta
Hot Tip:

If you have a Delta SkyMiles consumer or business card (except the Delta SkyMiles® Blue American Express Card), the deal is even sweeter with 15% off eligible award tickets. Note that this only applies to flights operated by Delta, not those operated by Aeromexico.

Final Thoughts

With up to 9 award seats available on these routes on sale, there’s no reason you shouldn’t plan a trip to Mexico City in 2024. Now’s the time to burn those SkyMiles!
