Great Card If

  • You bring your family to Disney Parks at least once every 2 years
  • You like to make purchases at Disney.com
  • You would take advantage of the 0% financing benefit on Disney vacation packages

Don’t Get If

Welcome Offer and Earning Categories

With the current sign-up bonus, you can earn a $300 statement credit after you spend $1,000 on purchases in the first 3 months (see the above table for details). That’s money for your favorite Disney merchandise!

On top of that, you’ll enjoy a 0% APR for 6 months on select Disney vacation packages. Picture the expression on your children’s faces when you tell them to pack their bags!

Then, earn 2% in Disney Dream Reward Dollars on purchases at gas stations, grocery stores, restaurants, and most Disney locations. Plus, earn 1% in Disney Dream Reward Dollars for all of your other card purchases. (That’s $1 for every $100 spent.

Bottom Line: Earn 1-2% back in Disney Rewards Dollars for your purchases on the Disney Premier card.

Disney Premier Card Perks

The Disney Premier card also comes with a bunch of perks, like 10% off Disney Store and DisneyStore.com purchases of $50 or more, including selected Star Wars merchandise.

Get the same discount on dining and more from select Walt Disney World and Disneyland locations.

But that’s not all. Get 20% off select guided tours and enjoy private Disney character meet & greet experiences at either park, also including Star Wars!

Plus, display some Disney love with one of 10 card designs. Choose from Star Wars designs as well as Frozen, Mickey & Pals, and more.

Bottom Line: Get perks like discounts on dining and merchandise along with special meet & greet opportunities when you own the Disney Premier card.

0% APR Vacation Package Benefit

A unique feature of the Disney Premier card is a 0% APR for 6 months on select Disney Vacation Packages. That means you have half the year to pay off your trip without accumulating interest when you book with the card.

This special financing offer makes it a little easier to pay for your memorable Disney vacation.

Drawbacks of the Card

One drawback of the card is the annual fee of $49. Because it’s hard to put a dollar amount on benefits like character meet & greets, the card may not be the first choice for those who aren’t frequent Disney park attendees.

Another option is the Disney® Visa® Card, which has similar benefits without an annual fee. There are 2 key differences with this card.

First, you get a flat 1% rewards rate rather than extra points for purchases at grocery stores, restaurants, and gas stations. Second, the sign-up bonus is typically less.

If you aren’t sure whether you will take full advantage of the Disney Rewards Dollars, you may find the Disney card to be a good supplemental card have.

For instance, you could use it for spending in the categories that get you 2% cash-back, and then sign up for another card to get additional benefits.

As an example, the Capital One Venture Rewards Credit Card earns a flat 2x on all purchases.

Bottom LineIn some cases, the Disney Premier card may be a good second card. You can accumulate Disney points for some purchases and use another card for your other spending.

Best Way To Redeem Disney Rewards Dollars

You only have 2 main options for redeeming points with the card: Disney Dream Reward Dollars or statement credit for airline tickets.

Disney Dream Reward Dollars

One Disney Dream Reward Dollar equals a $1 value when redeeming for Disney products and offerings. For instance, you could redeem 99 Disney Dream Reward Dollars for a 1-day child theme park ticket that regularly costs $99.

Before redeeming your Disney Dream Rewards Dollars, you’ll need to load them onto a Disney Rewards Redemption Card. It holds your Dollars until you’re ready to spend them.

In addition to purchasing Disney Park tickets, you can use the Dollars on your redemption card for movie cash, DVD cash, game cash, toy cash, and music cash vouchers. Below is a table showing the value of the different types of vouchers.

Type of VoucherValue
DVD Cash & Disney Blu-ray$15
Music Cash, Book Cash, Game Cash$10
Toy Cash$10

Vouchers expire 1 year from the month they were ordered.

Airline Statement Credit

Using the airline ticket benefit allows you to get value from the Disney Premier card without being tied down to Disney. (Then again, if you aren’t a Disney fan, you probably wouldn’t have the card in the first place!)

Redeeming for airline miles is pretty simple. Just purchase airline tickets with the card on any airline to any destination, and pay yourself back with a credit on your monthly statement.

Each Disney Dream Reward Dollar can be redeemed for $1 credit on your monthly statement.

The card makes the process as easy as possible by allowing you to book your airline ticket through a travel website, airline, or travel agent. There are no black-out dates to worry about either.

You can redeem rewards in increments of $50 up to the price of the ticket. That means you need at least 50 Disney Dream Reward Dollars in your account to get started.

However, it also means that even if you don’t have enough rewards to cover the whole ticket, you can use what you have to lower the out-of-pocket cost.

Be aware that it takes 1-2 billing cycles for the credit to appear. For that reason, the card does recommend that you pay the full amount of the ticket when it appears on your bill to avoid finance charges.

You have 60 days from your airline ticket purchase to redeem your rewards for the credit on your statement. Once you request to redeem statement credit, it takes 5-7 days to post.

Best Way To Maximize Disney Rewards Dollars

The Disney Premier card is primarily a cash-back card because you earn Disney Reward Dollars for your spending. Therefore, there are only so many ways you can maximize your rewards.

The best plan of attack is to use the card as much as possible for 2% cash-back spending. To maximize cash-back, you may want to purchase items you don’t normally buy at these places.

But don’t make extra purchases just to spend money! After all, you still earn 1% for all your other purchases, which is a small margin of difference.
